SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT: WILLIAM BLAKE
The Rockit Live Foundation is a non-profit organization with a defining focus on outreach, music education, and scholarships. Through scholarships, our elite program is available to aspiring artists at every level of economic status. The impact scholarships have on these young musicians is life changing. We will be highlighting their stories, starting with William.
William Blake, a senior in high school who plays the piano and alto saxophone, has been in the Rockit program for over six years.
“Over the years, the Rockit Live Academy has been one of the most important aspects of my life and has had an immense impact on me. Ever since my first rehearsal, I felt like Rockit was my home. Joining the program at the young age of ten exposed me to many things that would shape me into the person I am today. Rockit has taught me the importance of discipline, resilience, and how to communicate. These are all things that I value in everyday life, even outside of playing music. The program has also served as one of the biggest sources of socialization in my life. Throughout my time at Rockit, I have met numerous people who I can safely call friends for life, which is incredible. As a scholarship student, I am forever grateful for the opportunities that Rockit has provided me with, and hope to continue to share my talent with the program and keep playing.”
– William Blake
William’s mother, Nicola, gives her parental viewpoint:
“The Rockit Academy, without question, has had the single biggest impact on the lives of my two children, one current student and the other an alumnus. The disciplines of Daily Practice, Time Management and Working as a Team are skills that my children gained beyond the music lessons. These skills have shown up in everything else that they do, thus producing well rounded, multi-faceted musicians who are also excellent students. This program has opened not just doors, but my children’s eyes to what is possible if you work hard. As a parent, there is nothing better than seeing your children thrive. Thank you Rockit Academy for all that you do for all the kids in your program!”
