The Holmdel-Hazlet Patch covered Rockit’s recent visit to Union Beach:
At Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, Union Beach’s Memorial School was presented with a check for $2800 to help rebuild the music department, which lost all of its instruments and sheet music when Superstorm Sandy hit in October.
The check was presented to school superintendent Joe Annibale and the board by Bruce Gallipani, director and founder of Rockit, a rock band program for kids aged 8 to 18 and housed in the Performing Arts Academy at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank. Rockit took up the collection for the school at its annual holiday party in an effort to help give back music to the children of Union Beach.
To symbolize Rockit’s wish to support the children of Union Beach, a group of 11 of the more than 50 musicians in the Rockit program performed a medley of songs including, The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” “I’ll Be There for You,” and “We’re All in this Together.” Rockit, who performs at the Count Basie four times a year, along with multiple concerts throughout the Bayshore, pledged continued help to Memorial School and Union Beach as the community rebuilds.
